Buff and Blue to honor seniors after final dual meet
GW swimming and diving is back in action Saturday, hosting Marymount in a dual meet at The St. James in Springfield, Va.
The Buff and Blue look to post season-best times in their final head-to-head competition before next month's Atlantic 10 Championships with the men aiming to take advantage of a final chance to post top performances for NCAA qualification.
After the meet, GW will also honor its 10 seniors and two graduate students: Gabriella Arendes, Morgan Birdy, Meghan Burton, Patricia Cerri-Droz, Rachel Dickinson, Andrea Ho, Tali Lemcoff and Marissa Martin, Peter Nachtwey, Emils Pone, Youssef Ragab, Nick Tomczyk.
LAST TIME OUT: Last weekend, GW's divers took part in James Madison's Duke Dog Invitational with sophomore Spencer Bystrom leading the way on the strength of a pair of career-best performances.
The swimmers faced off vs. Navy in a dual meet in Annapolis, Md. On the men's side, Zach Hu, Jacob Miller, Oscar Madsen and Eddie Cosic led the Buff and Blue in two events apiece, while Marlee Rickert, Ho, Birdy and Martin all finished tops on the squad in a pair on the women's side.
ALL-TIME EFFORTS: Since the competitive season began on Feb. 5 at Virginia, GW has made 10 new additions to its all-time top 10 lists. (Find the men's list here & women's here.)
First-year Karol Mlynarczyk is responsible for four of them, including three swims that rank No. 2 in GW history. At his debut meet, the newcomer from Warsaw, Poland, posted a 100 back time of 46.97 seconds that still ranks among the top 60 nationally this season, in addition to swims in the 200 back (1:43.91), 100 fly (:47.98) and 50 free (20.79) that cracked the program's all-time list.
Fellow rookie Rickert has landed top-10 times in three events: 100 back (:56.12, seventh), 200 back (2:03.63, seventh) and 50 free (:23.77, ninth).
Marek Osina posted top-10 times in both the 400 IM (3:58.82) and 200 fly (1:49.24), while Pone picked up one in the 200 fly (1:49.70).

Feb. 9, 2021 marked the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Congress' establishment of The George Washington University's charter. GW Athletics is proud to be part of the university's bicentennialcelebration, honoring the historic milestone with a variety of initiatives meant to highlight the best of the Buff and Blue. A decorated backstroker, Tim Champney became the first GW men's swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championship in 2000. He won 18 Atlantic 10 gold medals for his career, including a sweep of the conference's 100 and 200 back titles from 1997-2000, and was twice named the A-10 Most Outstanding Performer. Months after traveling to the NCAA Championship in Minneapolis, he competed at U.S. Olympic Trials and placed among the top 50 in the nation in both the 100m and 200m back. Champney took his place in the GW Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
