Tim Champney '00 was a four-year letterwinner in men's swimming from 1996-2000 and is one of the most decorated swimmers in GW history having garnered 10 Atlantic 10 Championship medals over his career. Champney was the first-ever GW male swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships. He was tabbed as the Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer during the 1996-97 and 1998-99 seasons, and tallied eight gold medals at the conference championships as he took home first in the 100 back and 200 back for four straight years. He was also a two-time Academic All-Conference selection in 1998 and 1999. At the conclusion of his collegiate swimming career Champney held or was a part of nine school records and four A-10 records.
