Thomas Makes NCAA Championships as Men’s Swimming & Diving Takes Big Lead Into Final Day of A-10s

WASHINGTON – GW swimming & diving put up another strong performance on Day Three of the Atlantic 10 Championships in Hampton. The GW Revs men widened their lead on second-place George Mason, while the Buff & Blue women remained in second place and narrowed the gap between them and Richmond.
Holden Thomas had the moment of the night on Friday as he became GW's first-ever NCAA qualifier under the new conference automatic bids. Under the new rules, any conference champion who records an NCAA cut time in the conference final receives an automatic bid to the national meet.
Thomas' 46.24 in his 100-back finals victory met the standard by .05 seconds, enough to send him to Atlanta in March. His NCAA moment was made after a prelims run in the same event that tied GW legend Gustav Hokfelt's record 100-back time (45.99).
GW captured four gold medals on Day Three, courtesy of Thomas in the 100 back, Andres Brooks in the 400 IM, and both Natalie Sens and Alessandro Borsato in the 100 breaststroke.
The Buff & Blue head into the final day of the A-10 Championships in the mix for both titles. Day 4 prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by finals at 6:00 p.m., all of which will be carried on ESPN+.
