Colonials close A-10 slate with Revolutionary Rival
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball wraps up Atlantic 10 regular season play on Sunday afternoon, hosting Revolutionary Rival George Mason on Senior Day at the Smith Center at 2 p.m. on ESPN+. The Buff & Blue will honor graduate students Jasmine Whitney and Sydney Zambrotta prior to the game, as well as senior manager Maya Lilly.
IT'S CALLED A WINNING STREAK: Much like last year, GW is ending the regular season in the right direction, winning its last three games. The Buff & Blue won their final three games of the regular season in 2020.
In the last three games, GW has outscored Duquesne, St. Bonaventure and Davidson by an average of 16.7 points per game and allowed just 42.7 ppg. GW is yielding just 32.6% shooting and has held its opponent to 10 or fewer points in seven of the last 12 quarters.
Offensively, the Colonials are shooting 49% from the floor, 47.4% from beyond the arc and are outrebounding foes by 9.3 rebounds per game. First-year Ali Brigham has averaged 14.0 ppg and six additional Colonials are providing at least 5.7 ppg.
BRIGHAM A ROOKIE OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE: First-year Ali Brigham was named A-10 Rookie of the Week for the first time on Feb. 15 after averaging 14.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.0 apg and 1.5 bpg while shooting 60% in two victories over Duquesne and St. Bonaventure.
The distinction was long overdue for Brigham, who is a candidate for Rookie of the Year while leading league newcomers in points per game (12.3) and field goal percentage (51.8%). The shooting percentage is sixth in the nation among first-years, while her 21 blocks are 15th among freshmen nationally.
WE ARE ALL WHIT-NESSES: Graduate student Jasmine Whitney has put her all-around game on full display during the three-game winning streak, averaging 9.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 7.0 apg and 2.0 spg. Whitney has been a force on both ends of the floor this year. Defensively, she leads the A-10 in steals (53) and steals per game (2.8). Additionally, Whitney is holding her defensive assignment, typically the team's top-scoring guard, to 4.0 ppg below their average.
A LOOK AT THE PATRIOTS: George Mason enters Sunday having locked up the No. 14 seed in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Patriots are winless in conference play, having been outscored by an average of 18.5 points per game. Overall, Mason is averaging just 51.1 ppg and allowing 64.6 points per contest. Marika Korpinen is the team's top scorer at 9.6 points per game, followed closely by Daijah Jefferson at 9.0 ppg. In January's meeting, Korpinen led Mason with 13 points and four rebounds.

BICENTENNIAL SPOTLIGHT: Arguably the best player in program history, Tajama Abraham Ngongba is GW's all-time leader in scoring with over 2,000 points and games played with 130. She is also among the Buff & Blue's top five in career blocks, scoring average, rebounding and made free throws. She remains the only First Team All-American in program history, earning the honors in 1997 while leading GW to the Elite Eight. She currently serves as an assistant coach for George Mason.
