CONTESTS OF CHRISTMAS PAST:
Tuesday marks the final game for George Washington before the Christmas holiday, and traditionally the final game for the Colonials has provided a ton of holiday cheer. Coming into this season, the Colonials boast an impressive 27-15 (.642) record in their last game before the holidays. Offensively, GW has put together some of the best scoring performances in program history in its pre-Christmas match-ups, scoring over 85 points six times, including two 91-point performances in 1997, against Rider, and in 2000, against Towson.
As far as wins go, GW had one of its biggest wins in the final game before the holiday break back in 2007, when Joe McKeown's squad welcomed #10 Texas to the Smith Center on December 20th. In that game, GW upset the top-ten ranked Longhorns in overtime with a 66-65 victory before enjoying the holiday break.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE DELIGHT:
Last time out versus Howard, Mayowa Taiwo led the way with 10 points and 11 rebounds to record the fourth double-double of her career, and her first since she put up a career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds in the second round of last year's A-10 Tournament. Taiwo joins Ty Moore as the only Colonial this season to record a double-double, while GW's victory against the Bison improves its record to 3-0 this season when a member of the Buff & Blue records a double-double.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAIN HAWKS:
One year removed from a Patriot League title, Lehigh entered the 2021-22 season as the odds-on favorite to repeat, having been picked first in the Patriot League's preseason poll. The Mountain Hawks returns all but three players from their 2020-21 championship roster, including preseason first-team pick Frannie Hottinger.
Through its first 10 games, Lehigh has shown little sign of rust, sitting at 7-4 and averaging over 77 points. In their last game, the Mountain Hawks dominated Delaware State at home, 82-39. Offensively, the Mountain Hawks have four scorers who average double-digit points. Unsurprisingly, it is Hottinger who leads the pack, averaging just under 17 a game.
