Levin collects fourth multi-hit game in his last five
ARLINGTON, Va. - GW baseball stumbled to its third straight setback on Tuesday afternoon, falling to visiting Towson, 5-2, at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
The Colonials jumped out in front in the home half of the first on an RBI infield single from sophomore Noah Levin, scoring first-year Steve DiTomaso, but saw the Tigers score four straight over the next four innings to move in front for good.
Towson's Brandon Austin tied the game with an RBI single in the second before putting the Tigers ahead with another RBI knock in the fourth. Towson tacked on two more in the fifth to move ahead, 4-1.
GW had opportunities to break through, but left 10 on base, including the bases loaded in the second and seventh innings.
The Colonials drew a run closer on a pinch-hit RBI single from first-year Ervin Bogan in the bottom of the seventh and threatened for more with the bags packed and one down. However, Towson's Pete Marchinek escaped the jam via a strikeout and a groundout.
The Buff & Blue had the go-ahead run at the plate with two outs in the home half of the eighth, but again left two on after a groundout. Towson added an unearned insurance run in the top of the ninth to account for the final margin.
Levin's RBI single was part of a two-hit day that extended his hitting streak to 10 games in a row. DiTomaso reached base three times, including two singles, and scored a run.
GW now turns its attention to the final three games of its current eight-game homestand, welcoming NJIT to the The Tuck this weekend. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m. with a 1 p.m. start on Saturday and a noon start on Sunday.
