Men's Basketball Looks for Season Split at St. Bonaventure

TIPPING OFF: GW men's basketball is looking for a season split on the road Wednesday evening at St. Bonaventure at 7 p.m. The game will be live on Stadium and the TuneIn radio app.
LAST TIME OUT: The Colonials battled a tough Richmond team on Saturday evening before falling to the Spiders, 76-54, at the Robins Center. Sophomore Amir Harris finished with his first double-double as a Colonial with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The rookie class combined for half of GW's points, led by Jameer Nelson Jr. with 11 points and eight rebounds. Jamison Battle extended his made 3-point basket streak to 22 games with a splash midway through the opening half and finished with six points. Chase Paar also had six points and pulled down three rebounds, while Shawn Walker Jr. had four points off the bench.
Richmond's Grant Golden led all scorers with 20 points and was one of four Spiders in double figures.
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time series over St. Bonaventure, 35-28. The Colonials own an 11-8 record on the road against the Bonnies. SBU took the first meeting this season, a five-point win, 71-66, at the Smith Center to open A-10 play on Jan. 5. Battle led the Colonials with 20 points and pulled down six rebounds in 37 minutes. Redshirt senior Armel Potter, junior Maceo Jack and Harris had 11 points apiece with Harris grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. GW knocked down nine 3-pointers in the loss. Osun Osunniyi led the Bonnies with 20 points and nine rebounds and was one of four players in double figures.
SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE: Since the Atlantic 10 opening win on Jan. 5, the Bonnies started conference play 4-0 before dropping three straight. Last week, St. Bonaventure needed overtime to defeat Fordham (62-55) and then swept the George Mason season series with a 74-65 win on Saturday.
Kyle Lofton is 13th in the A-10 in scoring and leads the Bonnies averaging 14.0 points per game. Lofton ranks as the best ball handler in the A-10 at 6.2 assists per game and is tied for third in free throw percentage at 85.9%.
Dominick Welch is fourth in the A-10 in made 3-pointers with 54 and tied for fifth with 2.5 made threes per game. He is second on the team averaging 11.7 ppg.
HARRIS' BIG NIGHT: Harris tied his career-best with 11 points at Richmond on Saturday. This is the fourth time this season Harris scored in double figures. In his first three games with the Colonials, Harris finished with 11 (Longwood),10 (Vermont) and 11 (St. Bonaventure) points, respectively. His 10 rebounds tied a career-high that he set last season playing for Nebraska against Iowa on Mar. 10, 2019.
FULL NELSON SLAM: In the last three games, Nelson is averaging 15.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game and shooting 50% from the field to help the Colonials to a 2-1 mark during the stretch. On Saturday at Richmond, Nelson was two rebounds shy of back-to-back double-doubles with 11 points and eight rebounds.
HOMECOMING OF SORTS: Jack is playing in his second career game in his native area of Western New York. As a freshman, Jack had three points in 11 minutes in GW's last appearance at the Reilly Center on Jan. 28, 2018. On Wednesday, Jack will play in front of his mom, University at Buffalo women's basketball head coach Felisha Legette-Jack, who will be mic'd up in the stands for a feature that will air on local Buffalo TV station Spectrum News.
