Men's Basketball Falls at St. Bonaventure

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. — The GW men's basketball team fell to St. Bonaventure, 72-47, on Wednesday evening in A-10 play at the Reilly Center.
First-year guard Jameer Nelson Jr. led the team with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Classmate Jamison Battle added 13 points on 3-of-7 from the outside, to extend his made 3-pointer streak to 23 consecutive games.
The Colonials trailed 10-0 early but cut the deficit to 19-18 after Battle's jumper with 11:06 left in the first. SBU regained its double-digit lead (34-24) off Osun Osunniyi's layup at 3:03 before heading to the locker room with a 39-27 advantage.
Nelson and Battle combined for 19 of GW's 27 first-half points and knocked down 9-of-14 from the field.
The Bonnies increased their lead throughout the second half while shooting 45% from the field and held the Colonials to seven made field goals over the final 20 minutes.
Jaren English led all scorers with 21 points and was one of four Bonnies in double figures.
The Colonials return home to the Smith Center on Saturday to host Rhode Island at noon on CBS Sports Network for the annual Buff Out game.
