TIPPING OFF: GW welcomes Rhode Island to the Smith Center on Saturday at noon for the annual Buff Out. The game will be live on CBS Sports Network and the TuneIn radio app.
LAST TIME OUT: GW dropped the season series to St. Bonaventure with a 72-47 loss on Wednesday evening.
First-year guard Jameer Nelson Jr. led the team with 19 points, six rebounds and four assists. Classmate Jamison Battle added 13 points on 3-of-7 from the outside, to extend his made 3-pointer streak to 23 consecutive games.
Nelson and Battle combined for 19 of GW's 27 first-half points and knocked down 9-of-14 from the field.
Jaren English led all scorers with 21 points and was one of four Bonnies in double figures.
SERIES HISTORY: GW leads the all-time series over Rhode Island, 31-29. The Colonials own a 17-11 record at home against the Rams. URI took the lone meeting last season, 80-53, at the Ryan Center in Kingston on Feb. 26. Javier Langarica led the Colonials with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Rhode Island finished with three players in double figures, led by Jeff Dowtin's 16 points.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND: Fatts Russell leads all scorers in the Atlantic 10 at 20.2 points per game. In conference games, Russell is the only player to net at least 200 total points through 10 games (201). On the glass, Cyril Langevine is third in the league, grabbing 10.1 rebounds per contest.
The Rams are the second-hottest team in the Atlantic 10 at 9-1 in league play and enter Saturday's contest on a nine-game winning streak. Rhode Island's only A-10 loss came in the league opener to Richmond. Next Wednesday, Rhode Island will travel to A-10 leader Dayton before concluding the series with the Flyers on Mar. 4 at the Ryan Center.
