Crosstown rivals meet for the first time since 2012
WASHINGTON - GW women's basketball continues its three-game road trip with a trip across town to take on Howard. Tip is set for 2 p.m. with a live stream available on HUBison.com.
SET THE EXPECTATION: Set The Expectation is dedicated to combating sexual and physical violence through raising awareness, giving and serving, education and direct engagement with coaches, students and athletes in high school, collegiate and professional athletic programs.
Founder Brenda Tracy spoke at GW last fall, sharing her story of surviving a gang rape by four football players. After coming forward with her story in 2014, Tracy began traveling the country to share her story and work with college programs to sign the pledge committing programs to making a difference on their campus in combating sexual and physical violence.
Led by Faith Blethen, GW signed the pledge on Monday for the second straight year, signifying we will be part of the solution.
IN HIGH REGARD: First-year Ali Brigham's hot start has her ranked within the league's best in numerous categories, including near the top of the charts when compared to other rookies. Her 13.0 ppg are tied for best among A-10 first-years, while her 22 made field goals, 56.4% field goal percentage and 5.0 rpg rank second.
RESERVE ENERGY: Brigham teamed with classmates Aurea Gingras and Caranda Perea to provide 32 points in reserve on Wednesday at JMU. All three saw career-highs in minutes played as Head Coach Jennifer Rizzotti went with a young rotation in the second half.
GW's bench had 34 points on Wednesday, the most since providing 39 against Rhode Island on Jan. 24, 2018.
A LOOK AT THE BISON: Howard has dealt with a multitude of schedule issues so far this season, having seen two games canceled, one postponed and another rescheduled. HU is slated to take on La Salle on Friday afternoon prior to facing GW on Sunday. The Bison knocked off Mount St. Mary's, 87-84, to open their season on Nov. 30 thanks to the play of MEAC co-Player of the Week Jayla Thornton and Rookie of the Week Anzhane' Hutton. Thornton poured in 26 points and six rebounds and is on the verge of 1,000 career points. Hutton added 18 points on 8-of-9 shooting.
Howard was 16-15 a year ago, but returns only two starters with seven newcomers in the mix. The Bison were picked fourth in the MEAC Northern Division poll after finishing seventh in the one-division MEAC a year ago.
