GW seeking its fourth women’s conference championship in program history
SETTING SAIL: The GW sailing team returns to the site where it won its last conference championship this weekend, as SUNY Maritime plays host to the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Women's Championship.
GW heads into the competition as the eighth-ranked team nationally. League rivals Hobart & William Smith (No. 6), Cornell (No. 7), Pennsylvania (No. 11), Navy (No. 14), Georgetown (No. 17) and Fordham (No. 20) also own top-20 national rankings.
The Colonials last won a MAISA Women's Championship in the fall of 2017, marking their third title in program history. They swept the fall and spring MAISA women's championships in the 2015-16 season.
In addition to chasing their fourth conference title, the Colonials will look for a top-nine finish to qualify for the Women's National Championship in Newport, R.I., which will be contested May 21-24.
GW also has a contingent of sailors heading to the Boston Dinghy Cup, a three-division regatta hosted by Harvard on the Charles River.
