In three round robins across Saturday and Sunday, the Colonials had a 9-6 mark while Hobart and William Smith Colleges took first place with a 14-1 record.
Â
"We have a lot of new student-athletes in the water that can compete at a high level," said head coach Billy Martin. "I am looking to learn from this weekend and push forward to the Prosser Trophy in the upcoming weeks."
Â
The wind played a significant factor on both days of competition, as Saturday's breezy conditions forced all races to a lagoon rather than the open Potomac River, where wind gusts were near 20-25kt. This afforded many lead changes thanks to the unpredictable shifts in wind direction (W-NW). Sunday's races went off as planned on the Potomac, and despite the pleasant Spring-like temperatures, winds out of the west made racing extremely challenging.
Â
UP NEXT: GW is slated to compete in a pair of events next weekend at the St. Mary's Team Race and the first fleet race of the spring at the Navy Spring Women's Regatta.
