GW's 17-ranked coed team took fourth amongst an 18-team fleet at Navy, finishing behind a trio of top-10 teams in the host Midshipmen (No. 6), Georgetown (No. 2) and College of Charleston (No. 4). The Colonials finished ahead of three teams with higher rankings in Sailing World's College Rankings, besting No. 5 Stanford, No. 8 Hobart & William Smith and No. 12 Fordham.
"Navy is going to be the venue for the coed championship so it was great seeing some of our top sailors get experience," said head coach Billy Martin. "Andrew Sheerin and Zach Lehan in A Division did a great job leading the charge for us with a fourth-place finish. We had split duties in B Division with four sailors doing a really good job to combine for a seventh-place finish."
GW WOMEN'S INVITE (8TH, 11TH, 14TH, 15TH OF 18) | FULL RESULTS
At the GW Women's Invite, the Colonials entered four boats with a focus on getting reps in ahead of next weekend's women's conference championship at Fordham. Juniors Aitana Mendiguren and Sarah Noyes recorded GW's top finish with an eighth-place showing.
"We got a lot of good reps against a lot of good sailors," said Martin. "We're going to be looking strong going into our conference championship next weekend. We had some seniors step up and sail well with underclassmen to get some great experience. It was a really fun weekend and a successful event."
UP NEXT: The Colonials have a busy weekend ahead with the MAISA Championship at Fordham, the Boston Dinghy Cup at MIT and the Admiral's Cup in Kings Point, N.Y.
