Colonials look for season sweep of Dukes with tip set for 7 p.m.
WASHINGTON - GW plays its final regular season home game on Wednesday, welcoming Duquesne at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+. Entering the week, GW needs two wins OR one victory and two losses from either Saint Joseph's or George Mason to secure a home game in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship on Tuesday.
LAST TIME OUT: The Buff & Blue hosted a victorious Senior Day on Sunday, defeating St. Bonaventure, 57-44, for their second straight win. For the second straight game, GW never trailed en route to the victory. The Colonials have led for a combined 78:09 of the last 80 minutes while being tied 0-0 for the other 1:51. Three Colonials reached double figures in Sunday's win, including seniors Kelsi Mahoney (12 points) and Anna Savino (10). First-year Maddie Loder also added 10 points. GW set season-bests in field goal percentage (46.5) and 3-point percentage (50.0) in the efficient outing. The Colonials have shot at least 40 percent in consecutive games for the first time all season.
THE A-10 ROOKIE OF THE WEEK: Kayla Mokwuah was named the league's rookie of the week on Monday after nearly averaging a double-double in two games last week. The highlight was her performance at Massachusetts Wednesday when she notched her first career double-double with 15 points and a team-season-high 16 rebounds while adding four blocks. Mokwuah has played double-digit minutes in each of the last seven games, earned via a renewed effort and intensity in practice. She's reached double figures in four of the last five games, a stretch in which she is averaging 12.8 ppg and 6.6 rpg while shooting 54.2 percent from the floor.
REBOUNDING NICELY: Sunday's victory over St. Bonaventure marked the fourth straight game in which GW has out-rebounded its opponent, something that had happened in just six of the first 23 games. Individually, the Colonials have produced back-to-back double-digit rebounders in Kayla Mokwuah's 16 at Massachusetts and Neila Luma's 11 against St. Bonaventure. This season, GW is 5-5 when out-rebounding its opponent and 5-1 when having at least one player with double-figure rebounds.
HISTORY VS. DUQUESNE: The Colonials encounter their most popular A-10 rival for the second time this year on Wednesday. GW and Duquesne have squared off 67 times with the Buff & Blue coming out on top on 53 occasions. The last two games have been determined by the slimmest of margins, including GW hanging on for a 55-54 win in Pittsburgh one month ago. The Colonials are aiming to snap a two-game home skid against the Dukes, who have won at the Smith Center in each of the last two years.
A LOOK AT THE DUKES: Duquesne enters Wednesday's action in a tie for fourth in the A-10 standings with Dayton thanks to a three-game winning streak that includes an overtime win against VCU on Saturday. The Dukes can lock up at least the No. 4 seed in the A-10 tournament on Wednesday with a win and Dayton loss. Kadri-Ann Lass is one of three double-figure scorers for Duquesne, leading the team with 11.4 ppg and 6.1 rpg. Julijana Vojinovic (11.2) and Chassidy Omogrosso (11.1) also average at least 11 ppg. Omogrosso was the catalyst for the Dukes' comeback attempt in January, scoring 18 points.
