
Men's Water Polo Hosts MAWPC Pair at The St. James

Colonials welcome La Salle and Bucknell in home debut
The St. James in Springfield, Va.
The 14th-ranked Colonials will face La Salle on Friday at 6 p.m. before meeting No. 15 Bucknell on Sunday at 11 a.m. in a rematch of last fall's thrilling MAWPC final. Admission and parking at The St. James are free.
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW (12-3 overall) had a break last weekend after getting out to a 3-0 start in MAWPC play. The Colonials came from behind for a thrilling 9-8 win at then-No. 16 Fordham before dispatching Wagner and La Salle on the road.
Andras Levai was named MAWPC Player of the Week after posting 10 goals and six assists over the three games, highlighted by a personal 4-0 run to finish out the victory over the Rams.
Matt Taylor picked up conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his work in net. The graduate student from New Zealand totaled 30 saves against 16 goals allowed across the three victories, good for a .652 save percentage.
FRIENDLY WATERS: GW is set to play its first four MAWPC home games at The St. James before hosting Fordham and Wagner in a doubleheader at Smith Center Pool on Nov. 9.
The Colonials went 7-1 in home contests last fall.
MOVING UP: With 38 goals through 15 games, Andrew Mavis has moved into the top five on GW's all-time goals list. The senior from New Jersey has 240 scores in his career and enters the weekend just five behind Nate Little (2010-13) for the No. 4 spot.
Mavis has also amassed a team-leading 36 ejections drawn to push his career total to 225, which places him second on GW's all-time rankings. Right now, he's just 15 behind leader Pat Dodge (2000-03).Â
JOLT FROM JOSH: Josh Yardley posted a career-high six points via three goals and three assists in GW's 19-6 win at La Salle on Sept. 29, continuing a strong offensive run.
The sophomore from Pennsylvania now ranks third among Colonials with 29 points thanks to 11 goals and 18 assists. He's also pitched in seven field blocks, which puts him tied for second on the squad.
Yardley has already eclipsed his assist total from last season when he posted 14 helpers, in addition to 22 goals, as a first-year. His 36 points in 2018 were second-most among GW rookies.
SCOUTING LA SALLE:Â With five victories, the Explorers have already eclipsed their total from 2018, but they remain winless in MAWPC play at 0-6.
GW had 10 different scorers in their earlier win at La Salle, led by three goals apiece from Yardley, Levai and Jordan Blosser.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL:Â Led by three-time MAWPC Player of the Year Rade Joksimovic, the Bison (9-2, 2-1) have won three straight games since falling to Fordham, 17-15, in their conference opener on Sept. 21.
GW and Bucknell have engaged in some entertaining battles in recent years. The Buff and Blue took the last meeting on Nov. 18, 2018, to claim the MAWPC title, tying it on Atakan Destici's buzzer-beater at the end of regulation and then winning it 12-11 in overtime.
