
Men’s Water Polo Stays Perfect at Princeton Invitational

Colonials edged No. 16 California Baptist on late goal
PRINCETON, N.J. – Andras Levai scored with six seconds remaining to give GW men's water polo an 8-7 win over No. 16 California Baptist on Friday at the Princeton Invitational.
The 18th-ranked Colonials followed up with a 17-5 victory over Iona at DeNunzio Pool to remain perfect on the season at 6-0.
Levai finished the day with three goals and five assists, while Atakan Destici totaled a team-high seven goals in the doubleheader sweep.
GW 8, California Baptist 7: The Colonials dug deep to push past the Lancers in a back-and-forth contest.
GW took a 7-6 lead with 5:02 remaining on Andrew Mavis' third goal of the game before Cal Baptist answered to tie it up with 2:05 left, setting the stage for Levai's heroics.
After GW drew a late exclusion foul, Levai shook free of the defense and buried his one-on-one chance in the final seconds to give the Colonials the victory.
Levai did it all for GW, totaling a goal, four assists, two steals, two field blocks and two ejections drawn. Mavis and Destici scored three goals apiece with first-year DJ Davis providing the other goal and a team-high four steals.
Austin Pyrch came up with seven saves, limiting the Lancers to three goals after halftime in the victory.
GW 17, Iona 5: The Colonials finished the day with their second win in as many weekends over Iona. This time, they held the Gaels scoreless in the first half and led by as many as 14 goals en route to victory.
Ten different Colonials scored, paced by four goals from Destici. Jordan Blosser netted a season-high three goals with Nick Schroeder and Levai each scoring twice.
UP NEXT: GW concludes its stay in New Jersey on Saturday, facing No. 9 Harvard at 1:45 p.m. in a rematch from last season's NCAA Tournament.
