Colonials fell, 12-11, in finale at Princeton Invitational
PRINCETON, N.J. – George Washington men's water polo wrapped up its stay at the Princeton Invitational with a 12-11 loss to No. 9 Harvard on Saturday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool.
The 18th-ranked Colonials battled the Crimson to the finish but couldn't pull out the victory in a rematch of a thriller at the 2017 NCAA Tournament. They sit at 6-1 overall after winning two of three games for the weekend, including Friday's 8-7 victory over No. 16 California Baptist.
Atakan Destici (three goals, two assists) and Andras Levai (two goals, four assists) led GW against the defending Northeastern Water Polo Conference champions. Andrew Mavis and Nick Schroeder netted two goals apiece with Jordan Blosser and Jack Kerwin each adding a goal.
Austin Pyrch recorded a season-high 13 saves in net.
UP NEXT: GW heads to the West Coast next weekend for the Aggie Shootout at UC Davis. The Colonials are slated for four games over three days, including two against currently ranked foes.
