NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Sophomore right-hander Jaret Edwards has been named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week after he tossed a complete-game one-hitter to lead GW to a 1-0 victory over George Mason last Friday.
A native of Rocky River, Ohio, Edwards was brilliant throughout his first collegiate complete game. He struck out six without issuing a walk and allowed just two baserunners all game, facing one over the minimum thanks to a double play.
Edwards retired the side in order in the first three innings and allowed his first baserunner when he hit the leadoff batter in the fourth. He easily worked around it by setting down the next three.Mason got its only hit in the fifth via a one-out, infield single, but Edwards induced a 6-4-3 double play ball from the next batter to end the inning. From there, he retired the next 12 in a row to slam the door on the Patriots.
