ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - GW baseball evened its A-10 series with St. Bonaventure on Friday by virtue of a 4-3 triumph.
A two-out error in the top of the third, one of six on the day for the home side, opened the door for the GW Revolutionaries, and Greg Marmo took full advantage with a two-run blast, his first of the year, to open the scoring.
Marmo was involved again in the sixth, reaching on an error before scoring on another miscue on a bunt attempt from Cristino Tufano. The small ball continued later in the frame as Tufano raced home on a bunt single from Nick Mullen to extend the advantage to 4-0.
The Bonnies got an unearned tally back in the home half of the sixth but that was all against GW's starter Andrew Cutler, who ultimately earned the win by allowing just four hits with two strikeouts in six innings of work.
St. Bonaventure made things interesting with two runs in the eighth, but Matt Bruno came on to shut the door with a scoreless ninth and earn the save.
The rubber match of the three-game set is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
