Baseball Completes Sweep of NCCU

ARLINGTON, Va. -- The GW baseball team closed its final non-conference weekend series of the regular season in dominant fashion, taking a 19-7 win over visiting North Carolina Central to complete a series sweep.
The Colonials cranked out a season-high tying 19 hits and got off to a red-hot start, scoring enough runs (nine) in the first inning alone to carry a victory. With four-hit days, Isaiah Pasteur and Steven Barmakian led five Colonials with multiple hits, as Robbie Metz and Mark Osis added three-hit days and Colin Brophy chipped in two.
GW sent 14 batters to the plate in the nine-run first inning. The Colonials chased NCCU's starting pitcher before he was able to record an out and totaled eight hits in the frame, with Barmakian and Metz recording two knocks apiece.
The onslaught continued with two more runs in the second and four in the third as GW assumed a 15-3 lead through three innings. Eight Colonials drove in runs in the game, led by Pasteur, who totaled four, including a solo home run, his team-leading ninth of the year. The senior extended his hitting streak to 19 games and also scored three runs.
On the mound, Pat Knight (5-3) pitched an effective 3 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win. Tyler Swiggart faced just one over the minimum in three innings of hitless relief.
GW (19-12) has now won six in a row, and 12 of the last 13, while improving its record at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park to 15-2. The Colonials will return to A-10 play there on Friday when Richmond comes in for a three-game set. Next up is a Wednesday non-conference game at UMBC.
