LEADING OFF: After a pair of midweek rainouts the George Washington baseball team will conclude its road swing with a three-game series at St. Bonaventure this weekend. First pitch in Friday's doubleheader at Fred Handler Park is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
TRY IT AGAIN: Both of GW's midweek games, at Georgetown on Tuesday and at Delaware State on Wednesday, were washed out by inclement weather. The cancellations shortened GW's current 10-game stretch away from home to eight games.
ADDING TO HISTORY: Senior Isaiah Pasteur broke the all-time hit-streak record on Friday at Fordham and has extended his streak to 27 consecutive games entering Wednesday's contest. It stands as the longest active streak in NCAA Division I and the third-longest hit streak this season in college baseball.
Since the start of the streak on March 7, coincidentally against Delaware State, Pasteur is batting .410 with 11 doubles, four triples, six home runs, 28 RBI and is 12-for-14 in stolen base attempts.
NOT THE ONLY ONE: Pasteur isn't the only player who carries a double-digit hit streak into Wednesday's game. Freshman Colin Brophy has hit safely in each of the past 10 games and has reached base safely in 13 straight games. Starting with GW's doubleheader sweep over NCCU on April 6, Brophy is batting .351 (13-for-37) with five runs, one double and two RBI.
HE'S NUMBER ONE: Not only does Pasteur wear No. 1 on his jersey, he is also the No. 1 player in the Atlantic 10 in a handful of offensive category. Entering the weekend he leads the conference in hits (60), home runs (9), runs (42), slugging percentage (.665) and total bases (109). He also ranks third overall with a batting average of .366.
ON THE MARK: Senior Mark Osis is putting together what is shaping up to be the finest season of his career. The senior outfielder enters the weekend ranked second in the Atlantic 10 with 41 RBI, third in total bases (85) and fourth in slugging percentage (.552), which all stand as single-season career-high totals. He is batting .338 on the season with 12 doubles, three triples, five home runs and leads the Colonials with 18 multiple-hit games.
BET ON THE JET: Jaret Edwards, who was not a starting pitcher at the beginning of the season, has stepped up in a huge way to cement his status as GW's Friday starter. He is coming off the finest performance of his career last Friday against Fordham where he carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning. He did not factor into the decision but finished with a pitching line of 8.1 innings, five hits, three runs, one earned run, one walk and two strikeouts.
For the season he boasts a 2-0 record over 10 appearances (seven starts). He has fanned 22 batters and allowed just eight walks while holding a 3.27 ERA over 44.0 innings of work.
SERIES HISTORY: The teams last met during the 2015 season when GW swept a three-game series at The Tuck by combined score of 15-5. The Colonials lead the all-time series 55-22.
