BOCA RATON, Fla. - The George Washington baseball team fell in the middle game of its season-opening, three-game series against Florida Atlantic, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Key Stats
- Sophomore Elliot Raimo made his first start of the season and allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits over 5.1 innings of work. He struck out five with one walk. Four of the five runs he allowed came across the plate after his exit from the game in the sixth inning.
- Senior Mark Osis went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the offense. He also stole a base.
- Junior Isaiah Pasteur doubled in the eighth inning.
- Freshman Bryant Holtzapple picked up his first career hit and RBI with a run-scoring single in the ninth inning.
- GW stranded eight men on base total in the game, compared to 10 for FAU.
Scoring
- FAU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when a leadoff double came around to score on a one-out RBI single.
- A one-out error allowed a man on base in the bottom of the fifth and the run came around to score on a RBI single, putting FAU ahead 2-0.
- The Owls plated four runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to extend the lead to 6-0. The runs scored on a bases-loaded walk, two-run single and a wild pitch.
- GW loaded the bases in the top of the ninth on singles by Osis and Nate Fassnacht and a walk by Robbie Metz. Holtzapple, who entered as a defensive replacement in the eighth, then hit an infield RBI single for GW's first run of the 2018 season.
