BOCA RATON, Fla. - The George Washington baseball team held a 2-1 lead in the final inning of the game but Florida Atlantic scored twice in the bottom of the ninth inning to steal a 3-2 win in Sunday's series finale.
Key Stats
- Junior Isaiah Pasteur hit a leadoff home run on the very first pitch of the ball game to give GW its first lead of the series, 1-0.
- Pasteur (2-for-4, HR, RBI) and senior Mark Osis (2-for-4, 2B) both tallied multi-hit games for the Colonials.
- Junior Nathan Woods was solid in his first start as a Colonial. The right hander from Texas provided a quality start by allowing an unearned run on three hits over 6.1 innings. He walked two and struck out four.
- Junior Will Kobos threw 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with one walk and one strikeout.
Scoring - Pasteur drove the first pitch of the ball game over the left field wall to put GW ahead, 1-0. It was his sixth collegiate home run after hitting five round trippers as a freshman at Indiana in 2015.
- GW got consecutive singles from Osis and junior Dominic D'Alessandro to lead off the fourth inning. Senior Robbie Metz followed with a RBI single to give the Colonials a 2-0 lead.
- FAU got two runners on via errors in the bottom of the seventh and then scored its first run on a sacrifice fly to cut GW's lead to 2-1.
- The Owls got two runners on in the bottom of the ninth on a leadoff single and a one-out walk. A passed ball moved the runners up to second and third and both came in to score on a base hit/fielding error combo.
Up Next - GW returns to Florida next weekend to open a three-game set at Stetson in DeLand. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
