DELAND, Fla. - Four players tallied multiple-hit efforts, which led to a 10-9 advantage in hits, but the George Washington baseball team was unable to outscore Stetson in an 8-4 loss on Friday night in the series opener at Melching Field.

- Senior Brandon Chapman (3-for-4), sophomore Steven Barmakian (2-for-4, 1 2B, 2 RBI), senior Mark Osis (2-for-5, 1 HR, 1 RBI) and senior Robbie Metz (2-for-4, 1 RBI) all turned in multiple-hit games.
- Osis smacked his first career home run with a solo shot in the top of the sixth inning.
- GW cut an early 5-1 deficit to just one run in the top of the seventh, but the Hatters responded with a three-run bottom half of the seventh to push the final margin to four runs.
Scoring - Bottom 1: A leadoff single came around to score on a RBI double to give Stetson a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, a wild pitch brought in a second run. (Stetson 2, GW 0)
- Top 4: Barmakian led off with an infield bunt single, moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt and then scored on a RBI single by Metz. (Stetson 2, GW 1)
- Bottom 4: Two walks preceded a three-run home run by the Hatters (Stetson 5, GW 1).
- Top 6: Osis swatted a 1-0 pitch over the fence in right field for his first career home run (Stetson 5, GW 2).
- Top 7: GW got runners at the corners thanks to a leadoff error and a single by Chapman. After a pair of outs, Barmakian laced a two-run double to the gap in right center to cut the deficit to one. (Stetson 5, GW 4).
- Bottom 7: A two-out walk was followed by a base hit, which put runners at the corners. A RBI single followed. After a hit batter loaded the bases, a two-run single extended the lead to four. (Stetson 8, GW 4).
Up Next - Game two of the series will be played Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Sophomore righty Elliott Raimo gets the start for the Colonials.
