Colonials close regular season Saturday with split doubleheader
The Colonials are set to honor their four seniors before hosting Johns Hopkins for a 10 a.m. start at Charles E. Smith Center Pool. Later, they'll head to Scott Natatorium in Annapolis, Md., to face Navy at 8 p.m. in their final contest before next week's Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Championship.
LAST TIME OUT:Â GW (17-6, 7-3 MAWPC) split a conference doubleheader in its home pool last Sunday. The Colonials downed Fordham, 15-13, before falling to Wagner, 18-16.
Andrew Mavis paced the offense for the Buff and Blue with eight goals on the day, while Nick Schroeder totaled six goals and two assists.
Andras Levai posted five goals and two assists to reach 100 points for the second straight season.
SENIOR CELEBRATION:Â GW will recognize seniors Brett Else, Jack Kerwin, Austin Pyrch and Zach Slaughter before the contest. Over the past four seasons, the group has been part of 57 wins, highlighted by last season's first-ever MAWPC Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance.

CAREER YEARS:Â Kerwin ranks fourth among Colonials with 45 goals, which is more than he scored over his first three seasons in Buff and Blue combined (43). The Connecticut native set a career high with five goals in the 20-9 win over MAWPC-leading Bucknell on Sept. 29.
Pyrch has set a new career high with his 220 saves this season. The veteran goalkeeper has stopped 54.6 percent of the shots he's faced so far, which would also be the best mark of his career. He registered 16 stops in the Sept. 29 victory over Bucknell to set a new personal single-game record.
FOR THE WIN:Â With 17 wins, GW has matched its total from each of the past two seasons. The Colonials haven't tallied more than that since going 18-13 under Van Hoffman in 1998. They won a program-record 23 games in 1997.
STANDINGS CHECK:Â With a Saturday sweep, GW can clinch a second-place finish in the MAWPC regular season standings. Navy (13-11, 5-5) can finish anywhere between third and fifth, while Johns Hopkins (7-15, 2-8) has already locked up the No. 6 spot.
SCOUTING JOHNS HOPKINS:Â The Blue Jays have dropped five straight since a 24-5 win over La Salle on Oct. 26. They are ranked No. 8 nationally in the CWPA Division III poll.
GW won the first meeting this season, 21-18, on Sept. 28 in Baltimore behind a season-high seven goals from Mavis.
SCOUTINGÂ NAVY:Â The Midshipmen have lost four of their past five games, though the victory came last Saturday over Wagner, which has clinched a top-three finish in the MAWPC standings. Isaac Salinas (45 goals, 22 assists) is their top offensive threat.
GW picked up a 14-8 victory over Navy on Oct. 19 at Smith Center Pool, boosted by a three-goal, five-assist performance from Atakan Destici.
COMING UP:Â The MAWPC Championship runs next Friday through Sunday at Fordham's Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center in Bronx, N.Y. The first-round pairings will be determined after the conclusion of the regular season Saturday.
