ARLINGTON, Va. - Freshman Nate Fassnacht and senior Joey Bartosic each extended their hit streaks to seven games but a five-run seventh inning allowed Georgetown to rally for a 6-4 win over George Washington on Wednesday afternoon at Tucker Field at Barcroft Park.
Fassnacht continued his hot start to his collegiate career by going 2-for-3 with a double, one run and one RBI. Bartosic was 1-for-4 from the leadoff position with one RBI, a walk and one stolen base.
Senior Shane Sweeney was solid as GW's starter, allowing just one unearned run on six hits across five innings.
GW took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Fassnacht led off the inning with a double and scored on a RBI single by senior Cody Bryant. Later in the inning, a run came in on a fielder's choice with the bases loaded as freshman Quintin Ivy recorded his first career RBI.
Georgetown answered with a run in the top of the fifth but the Colonials responded by scoring single runs in each of the next two innings. In the bottom of the fifth it was a RBI single by Fassnacht and in the sixth a run-scoring single by Bartosic.
Georgetown stormed back to take a 6-4 lead by scoring five runs on four hits in the top of the seventh and held on down the stretch to clinch the win.
GW returns to action this weekend with a three-game series at VMI. Game one on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m.
