WASHINGTON â€" The George Washington lacrosse team dropped its second game of the season to Georgetown, 16-5, on Wednesday afternoon at the GW Lacrosse Field on the Mount Vernon Campus.
Junior Jocelyn Donohue paced the Colonials offense with three goals and one assist, completing the sixth hat trick of her career. Senior Michaela Lynch also contributed on the offensive end, scoring a pair of goals and snagging three ground balls. Freshman Katie Quinn had a team-high two assists, one ground ball, and one draw control.
Georgetown (1-1) got on the board first with an early goal by Francesca Whitehurst, followed by an unassisted goal by Georgia Tunney. Donohue evened it less than a minute later, taking a quick pass from Quinn off the draw and converting it to kick start the Colonials offense. Georgetown responded, but GW bounced back when the dynamic duo of Donohue and Quinn found the back of the net once again.
The Hoyas, however, followed with four in a row to grab a 7-2 lead before Donohue completed her hat trick with a pass from senior Shea Cassidy. Georgetown scored one more to finish out the half up 8-3.
The Hoyas again scored early in the second half before the Colonials got it back with Lynch's goal at 22:40 and a repeat goal just three minutes later to cut the lead to five. Georgetown answered, rattling off six straight goals to finish out the game 16-5.
Junior Adele Wise made 12 saves in between the pipes compared to Maddy Fisher who stopped eight shots for the Hoyas. The Colonials held a 20-16 edge in ground balls.
The Colonials hit the road for the first time this season on Saturday to take on Longwood at 1 p.m.
