JACKSONVILLE - George Washington and North Florida battled through five scoreless innings before the Osprey's plated two runs in the sixth en route to a 2-0 victory on Saturday afternoon at Harmon Stadium.
Sophomore Robbie Metz allowed just two base runners across the first four innings before running into trouble in the sixth. He surrendered the go-ahead run on a RBI ground-rule double and another run came around to score following his exit.
GW's (1-1) best chance to score came in the top of the second when an Andrew Selby walk and Eric Ramsey single put two runners on with two outs, but North Florida (1-1) escaped the jam.
Metz took the loss after yielding two runs on four hits and two walks in 5.2 innings of work.
Sophomore Tyler Swiggart followed Metz and pitched a scoreless inning. Freshman Justin Friedman was next out of the bullpen for the Colonials and pitched 1.1 hitless innings with just one walk.
GW and North Florida will play the rubber match of the three-game series on Sunday afternoon. Senior Jacob Williams will get the start for the Colonials. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
