BALTIMORE - The George Washington baseball team erased a 4-1 deficit to take a 5-4 lead, but UMBC used a six-run seventh inning to win Tuesday night's game by a score of 10-5 at Alumni Field.

GW (17-10) struck first in the top of the first inning when sophomore Bobby Campbell hit a two-out single and scored on an RBI double by freshman Brandon Chapman.

UMBC (14-10) tied the game in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly and then scored three runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead.

The Colonials got a sacrifice fly from Campbell in the top of the third to cut the deficit to 4-2 before plating three runs on four hits to reclaim the lead at 5-4 in the top of the fourth.

Consecutive one-out singles by sophomores Colin Gibbons-Fly and Kevin Mahala put two runners on for sophomore Andrew Selby, who followed with a two-run double for his team-leading 14th extra-base hit of the season. Sophomore Eli Kashi was next up to the plate and contributed an RBI single to score Selby and put the Colonials on top, 5-4.

The Retrievers took advantage of three hit batsmen and a pair of errors to score six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning and take a 10-5 lead. The bullpen turned away the Colonials in the eighth and ninth innings to clinch the win as UMBC earned the series split.

Selby finished 2-for-3 with one double, one run and two RBIs while Chapman was 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

GW will conclude its five-game road trip at No. 16 Maryland on Wednesday afternoon at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium in College Park, Maryland, at 4 p.m.
