GW Baseball Drops Middle Game, 6-2 to Fordham

WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team scored single runs in the first two innings to build a 2-0 lead, but Fordham responded with six unanswered runs and the Colonials fell, 6-2, in game two of a three-game series on Saturday afternoon at Tucker Field.
GW (22-12, 9-4 A-10) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Joey Bartosic led off with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a bunt single by freshman Robbie Metz and scored on an attempted steal of second base.
The Colonials added to the lead in the second when sophomore Bobby Campbell led off with a base hit and advanced to third when freshman Brandon Chapman singled on a hit-and-run. Sophomore Kevin Mahala then lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center field to extend the lead to 2-0.
Metz was on the mound for the Colonials and held Fordham (15-21, 6-5 A-10) scoreless through the first four innings before yielding a two-run home run in the fifth which tied the score at 2-2.
The Rams added a run in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead and then scored three times in the the ninth for the final 6-2 tally.
Campbell finished 2-for-4 with one double and one run to lead the offense.
GW will look to avoid the sweep in Sunday's finale. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Tucker Field.
