GW Baseball Set for Midweek Contests

WASHINGTON - The George Washington baseball team will conclude its five-game homestand with a non-conference game against UMBC on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Tucker Field before hitting the road to visit Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
The Colonials currently boast the top defense and third-best pitching staff in the Atlantic 10 entering this week's games. GW has a team fielding percentage of .980 with a league-low 16 errors and a team ERA of 3.55 in 21 games.
Sophomore Joey Bartosic leads GW and ranks ninth in the Atlantic 10 with a .357 batting average. Bartosic also paces the Colonials in on-base percentage (.419), runs (16), hits (30) and stolen bases (11-for-11).
Freshman Robbie Metz ranks second on the team, hitting at a .310 clip while leading the Colonials on the mound. Through five starts this season, Metz is 2-0 with a 0.57 ERA and 18 strikeouts against just five walks in 31.1 innings of work.
Sophomore Kevin Mahala hit his team-leading third home run of the season in Saturday's 1-0 victory over St. Bonaventure. Mahala is tied for second on the team with 11 RBIs this season.
Sophomore Eddie Muhl leads the Atlantic 10 with seven saves this season. He has yielded just one earned run across 11.1 innings and has registered nine strikeouts. His ERA stands at 0.79 entering Tuesday's game.
UMBC carries a six-game win streak into Tuesday's game and boasts an overall record of 10-9 on the season. The Retrievers defeated the Colonials, 8-2, in last season's meeting at Tucker Field.
Mount St. Mary's has lost 13 consecutive games dating back to March 1. The Colonials defeated The Mount, 10-1, on March 18 at Tucker Field. Sophomores Bobby Campbell and Andrew Selby each drove in three runs apiece and freshman Brady Renner earned his first collegiate win.
