NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The George Washington baseball team rallied from behind to tie the score at 3-3, but it was not enough as a six-run sixth inning allowed Cal State Northridge to hand the Colonials a 10-3 loss on Friday afternoon at Matador Field.

CSUN (13-4) built a 2-0 lead after a sacrifice fly in the first inning and a RBI single in the third inning.

GW (7-5) responded with a run in the top half of the fourth when sophomore Joey Bartosic was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a RBI groundout by freshman Robbie Metz.

The Colonials threatened to tie the score in the fifth when sophomore Andrew Selby led off with a base hit and advanced to second on a groundout, but CSUN starter Calvin Copping recorded consecutive strikeouts to escape the jam.

The Matadors used a solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 3-1 before the Colonials rallied in the top half of the sixth.

Consecutive singles by sophomore Eli Kashi and Bartosic put two on with no outs and senior Ryan Xepoleas followed by reaching on a fielder's choice sacrifice bunt to load the bases. Sophomore Bobby Campbell then reached on a fielder's choice, knocking in a run in the process, before Selby executed a RBI squeeze bunt to knot the score at 3-3.

CSUN took the lead for good with six runs on four hits in the bottom half of the sixth inning to take a 9-3 lead and added a 10th run when it scored on a wild pitch in the eighth.

Junior Bobby LeWarne took his first loss of the season after he allowed six runs on four hits with five walks and five strikeouts in 5.1 innings of work. Copping earned the win for CSUN after allowing three runs, one earned, in 6.1 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts.

GW and CSUN will play the middle game of the three-game series on Saturday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. ET. Junior Shane Kemp will get the start for the Colonials. The game will be broadcast live on gwradio.com
