
GW Women's Hoops Cruises Past Grambling State, 89-51

WASHINGTON - Freshman Kelli Prange scored 23 points and sophomore Caira Washington posted her second straight double-double as the George Washington women's basketball team cruised to an 89-51 win over Grambling State on Monday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Prange made her first eight shots and finished 9-of-11 from the floor as she topped 20 points for the second time in five games to start her career, while Washington tallied 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds. Sophomore Aaliyah Brown scored a season-high 11 points with three 3-pointers, and junior Jonquel Jones added 10 points and nine rebounds as four Colonials scored in double figures for the third straight game.
GW (3-2) shot 67 percent (24-36) in the first half, building a double-digit lead before the first media timeout en route to a 57-25 advantage at halftime - a season-high for points in a half. The Colonials allowed back-to-back field goals just once in the opening 20 minutes, holding Grambling State (2-3) under 28 percent from the floor.
The margin never dipped below 30 in the second half and peaked at 41 points, 88-47, on a layup by sophomore Shannon Cranshaw with just over two minutes to play.
GW dominated the boards, outrebounding the Lady Tigers, 56-27, for a season-best total as well as margin. The Colonials shot 54.8 percent for the game and dished out a season-high 26 assists on 34 made field goals, led by six from senior Chakecia Miller and five apiece from Cranshaw and sophomore Hannah Schaible.
Yosha Watson led Grambling State with 23 points and six steals.
GW now heads to the Caribbean for the Junkanoo Jam during the Thanksgiving holiday. The Colonials open the tournament on Friday against N.C. State at 1 p.m. in Jones' hometown of Freeport, Bahamas.
