Julia Weir Finishes Fifth at Leopard Invitational

EASTON, Pa. - Junior Julia Weir continued her strong season with her second consecutive top-ten showing by finishing fifth out of 101 runners at the Leopard Invitational at Lafayette College on Saturday morning.
Weir navigated the 6,000 meter course in 22:05, her fastest 6K time of the season, to lead the GW women to a 10th place finish. The GW men's cross country team finished 12th.
All of GW's women harriers recorded personal-best times in the 6K event. Junior Heather Stevens finished in 22:57, good for 27th place. A trio of freshmen, Paige Peltan (53rd, 24:03), Kathryn Luker (57th, 24:12) and Erica Halvorson (76th, 25:10), were next across the line for the Colonials.
On the men's side, sophomore James Stern was the top performer for the Colonials, finishing the 8K race in 28:42 (60th of 111). He was followed by freshman Tyler Gillies (61st, 28:45) and sophomore Marco Siragusa (62nd, 28:42).
Freshman John Perrino (78th, 29:33), senior Dan Kane (86th, 30:07) and sophomore Rex Sheikh (98th, 31:17) rounded out the lineup for the Colonials.
The George Washington cross country team will return to action at the Atlantic 10 Championships on Oct. 29 in Charlotte, N.C.
