GW Cross Country Teams Run at Atlantic 10 Championships

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The George Washington men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Atlantic 10 Championship Saturday morning at Charlotte's Frank Liske Park. Both Colonials' teams finished in 13th place.
An expected rain storm never materialized and La Salle claimed both the men's and women's team championships under partly sunny skies. Jill Prentice of Richmond captured the women's individual crown while La Salle's Alfredo Santana won the men's title.
Junior Julia Weir paced the GW women's team with a 64th-place finish as she navigated the 5,000-meter course in 19:05, improving on her 2010 A-10 Championship time by 85 seconds. Junior Heather Stevens finished in 19:56 (102nd) followed by freshmen Paige Peltan (20:33, 114th), Kathryn Luker (20:54, 120th) and Erica Halvorson (21:31, 124th).
Sophomore Jackson Carnes paced the GW men's team by running to a 62nd-place finish in his first appearance at the A-10 Championships. He led the Colonials on the 8,000-meter course with a time of 26:15.
Sophomore Marco Siragusa was next across the finish line for GW, finishing in 27:42 (106th). Freshman Tyler Gillies crossed just after Siragusa in 109th place with a time of 27:48 followed by sophomore James Stern (28:26, 114th), senior Dan Kane (29:08, 117th), freshman John Perrino (29:11, 118th) and senior Scott Garrett (29:25, 121st).
The GW men's and women's cross country teams will next compete in the Cavalier Open in Charlottesville, Va., this Friday.
