Colonials Fight Lightning, Drop 11-4 Decision to Fordham

ARLINGTON, VA -- Fordham scored three runs in the top of the first and fourth innings to take a 6-2 lead and added four more in the top of the sixth for a commanding 10-2 advantage en route to an 11-4 Atlantic 10 victory over George Washington Friday at Barcroft Park.
The Colonials fought heavy lightning on the day as it took over five hours to complete the nine inning game after two lengthy delays. The final two innings alone took over two hours to complete.
The Colonials got two in the bottom of the first on back-to-back RBI doubles by seniors Chris Luick and Chris Holland. Junior Brendon Kelliher added his 12th home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning. Senior Tom Zebroski continued his assault on the George Washington record book as he recorded three more hits and is now two hits away from setting the Colonials record of 291 hits.
Senior RHP Ryan Lapointe got the start for GW and struck out eight while walking none in seven innings.
GW (24-25, 12-10 A-10) and Fordham (18-31, 12-10) will be back in action for game two of the three-game series Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. start at Barcroft Park (4200 South Four Mile Run Drive, Arlington, VA). Saturday's contest will be preceded by a special `Senior Day' ceremony honoring GW's 10 seniors.
The GW-Fordham series concludes Sunday at 2 p.m. following George Washington's commencement ceremonies on the National Mall.
