Colonials Rout USC Upstate 9-0, Win Fifth Straight

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University baseball team opened up a close game in the eighth inning and went on to win 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at Harley Field. The Colonials only led 1-0 after seven innings, but scored four runs in the eighth and ninth inning to win big in Spartanburg, SC. Junior Joe Richardson pitched another strong game, going seven innings and not allowing a run for the second time in his three starts for George Washington.
Senior designated hitter Curtis Eward and junior centerfielder Brendon Kelliher each had two hits and drove in three runs to lead the Colonials offense attack. Senior Tom Zebroski also had two hits and scored a run to pace George Washington from the top of the lineup. Redshirt senior Chris Luick led the Colonials with two runs scored and drew two walks to push his team-high total to 10 on the season.
The pitching though paced the way for the Colonials, who threw their first shutout of the season and have only allowed one run in the two games against USC Upstate and just eight runs their last five games. Richardson lowered his ERA to 1.35 on the season and freshman Brian Derner and sophomore Marshall Seedorff each threw shutout frames to complete the shutout.
The Colonials will look for their second straight three-game sweep on Sunday against the same Spartans at Harley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. and George Washington is scheduled to send senior Ryan Lapointe to the mound.
