Colonials Fall in 9-8 Heartbreaker to Georgetown

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University baseball team wrapped up a three-game series against Georgetown on Sunday afternoon and dropped a 9-8 heartbreaker after being one out away from victory. Sophomore Stephen Oswald led the offense with a home run and six RBI's, which was a career-high. Junior Eric Cantrell got the start and went seven innings, allowing seven earned runs and striking out seven.
The Colonials once again got some early offense, scoring five runs in the first three innings to take a 5-2 lead. The Colonials scored three runs in the fifth inning as well and their lead was up to 8-3 after four and a half innings. The Hoyas stormed back though as they scored three runs in the seventh inning and were able to push across the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
Freshman Justin Albright also had two hits and reached base a total of four times in the contest and senior Chris Holland also had a multi-hit game. He also drove in a run and scored a run as well.
The Hoyas started Will Harris, who threw 4 2/3 innings and allowed six earned runs on the day. Leadoff man Tommy Lee led the Georgetown attack once again with two hits and Sean Lamont added three hits on his own.
The Colonials will now continue on the road when they travel to George Mason on Tuesday, March 24th with a first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m. George Washington will then start A-10 conference play next weekend when they host Duquesne for a three-game series that will begin on Friday, March 26th.
