Colonials Edged 10-9 In Shootout With George Mason

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University baseball dropped their second straight game one-run game Wednesday afternoon in Fairfax, VA when they fell to the Patriots by a 10-9 score. It was the fourth straight high scoring affair for the Colonials, who have scored 41 runs in their last four games, but have just one win to show for it. Senior Jon Chirumbolo went 4-4 with a walk to lead the offense.
The Colonials got off to a fast start scoring two runs in the first inning on a Chris Luick home run, but quickly gave up three runs in the Patriot half of the first inning to fall behind 3-2. The Colonials added a run in the second, but three more Mason runs gave them a 6-3 lead after three innings. George Washington fought back though with three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at six.
After six complete the Colonials were down 9-8, but were able to score on freshman Robbie Haben's sacrifice fly to tie the score at nine. That score held until the bottom of the tenth when Brig Tison's RBI double ended the game with one out.
Freshman Justin Albright walked twice and score two runs and Luick reached base four times and recorded his team-leading fifth home run. Senior Tom Zebroski also recorded a walk and a hit from the leadoff spot to spark the Colonial attack.
Freshman Ryan Heinz got the start and went 4 2/3 innings and allowed seven earned runs. Sophomore Marshall Seedorff came in relief and pitched 2 2/3 shutout innings.
The Colonials will not begin A-10 conference play with a three-game series against Duquesne starting Friday, March 26th. The Friday contest will have a 3:00 p.m. start time and the Colonials will have senior Ryan Lapointe make the start.
