Hamling, Corba Sweep A-10 Weekly Awards

WASHINGTON -- Freshman Mimi Hamling and sophomore Jacqueline Corba were named Atlantic 10 Rookie and Performer of the Week, respectively, on Monday for their contribution to GW's 4-3 wins over Penn and Richmond.
In GW's two weekend wins over Penn and Richmond, Hamling was the only player to win both singles and doubles matches. She grabbed victories over Jules Rodin of Penn, 6-1, 6-1, and Helen Cunningham of Richmond, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) at No. 2 singles. At No. 1 doubles with sophomore Zoe Krohn, they picked up victories over Penn, 9-8 (6) and Richmond, 8-6.
Corba, one of the Colonials' team captains, defeated Richmond's Erin Clark 7-5, 0-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. Against Penn in No. 2 doubles, Corba teamed up with freshman Dorota Lysienia to win 8-2. This is Corba's second A-10 Performer of the Week award of the season.
The Colonials travel to College Park, MD, on Friday, March 5, to take on Columbia at 11 a.m. before coming home to host St. Joseph's Saturday, March 6, at the Mount Vernon Tennis Facility at 1 p.m.
