Colonials Defeated By Xavier 13-3

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team (20-31, 9-14 A-10) returned to action on Sunday at Barcroft Park and were defeated by Xavier 13-3 in their final A-10 Conference home game.
The Musketeers scored a pair of runs in the first inning and added a third in the second inning. It was keyed by a sacrifice fly by Jordan Conley and a home run by Steve Brown. Xavier opened it up in the fourth inning when they pushed five runs across to increase their lead to 8-0.
Xavier starter Ben Thomas went 7 2/3 innings in the contest and allowed three earned runs. He carried a shutout into the 8th inning, until senior Tim Reeves hit his seventh home run of the season; a three-run shot that went over the wall in center field. George Washington sophomore Joe Motto recorded his first career extra base hit preceding the home run when he doubled down the right field line.
Junior Tom Zebroski also had a big offensive game for the Colonials, recording three hits from the leadoff spot and raising his average on the season to .351. The Colonials will return to the field tomorrow when they face James Madison at 4:00 p.m at Barcroft Park. It will be the last home game of the 2009 season.
