Colonials Fall in Extras to Spiders, 9-6

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team lost a tough one at Barcroft Park on Friday afternoon by the final score of 9-6 in 11 innings. It was the first extra inning game of the season at Barcroft Park and dropped the Colonials A-10 record to 1-3.
Sophomore Eric Cantrell got the start and went seven innings and allowed six earned runs in the no-decision. The Colonials were trailing most of the contest, but redshirt junior Sean Rockey hit a tying three-tun home run in the seventh inning. This tied the score and eventually forced the extra innings of play.
The Spiders however were able to plate three runs in the 11th inning and the Colonials were unable to get anything going against Spider closer Jared Bard.
Rockey, junior third baseman Chris Holland and catcher Will Cooper each had multi-hit games for the Colonials and Rockey led the team with three RBIs on the day. Freshman Jay Lively continued his strong string of appearances, by coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings.
The Spiders were led by Chris Cowell, who went 3-4 and Cameron Brown, who hit two home runs for Richmond. Brown's two home runs were half of the Spiders four home runs on the day.
The Colonials will return to the field tomorrow at Barcroft with a first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
