George Washington Falls 4-3 In Pitcher's Duel

ARLINGTON, VA - The George Washington University baseball team fell 4-3 in the series finale against the Rams Sunday afternoon at Barcroft Park. The Colonials got a complete game from Pat Lehman, but an eighth inning run lifted the Rams to win the series.
The game was close from start to finish as 20 scouts were on hand to see Lehman, as well as Ram starter Eric Smith. Smith also shined as he went seven innings and allowed four hits and three earned runs.
The Rams got on the board first as Dan Rhault hit one of his two home runs in the fourth inning and gave Rhode Island an early 2-0 lead. Rhault later hit an opposite field home run in the sixth inning to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.
The seventh inning proved pivotal for the Colonials, as they finally were able to get to Smith and tie the game. Junior Sean Rockey led the inning off with a home run to give the Colonials their first run of the game. Senior Tim Reeves then singled and advanced to second when Brendon Kelliher was hit by a pitch. Gavin Swanson was also hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases for pinch hitter Doug Eizen, who singled up the middle and tied the score at three going into the eighth inning.
The Rams were able to score the winning run in the eighth and dropped the Colonials to 10-13 and 1-2 in Atlantic 10 conference play.
The Colonials return to the field on Tuesday, March 24 when they host Georgetown at Barcroft Park. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
