Colonials' Baseball Eyes 40 Wins, A-10 Title

WASHINGTON, DC - With an overall record of 36-16 and a magic number of one to clinch its second straight Atlantic 10 Conference West Division title, the George Washington University baseball team will close out its regular season with a chance of reaching the 40-win mark and securing the number-two seed in the conference tournament.
The Colonials currently hold a two-game Divisional lead over Dayton with three conference games to play. So one more GW victory or Dayton loss in any of its remaining conference games assures the Colonials the West title and a first round bye.
After a non-conference game Wednesday night at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC), GW travels to Ambler, PA to meet Temple for the final three-game regular season series (doubleheader Thursday and single game Friday). The Flyers host Richmond in their A-10 series finale.
The Colonials enter the season's home stretch with a six-game winning streak, including a three-game series sweep of conference foe La Salle that earned GW its sixth straight A-10 Tournament berth.
The Colonials will bring two of the conference's hottest pitchers to the tournament, scheduled for May 25-28 in Dayton, OH. Current A-10 Co-Pitcher of the Week RHP Derrik Lutz (Grantville, PA / Lower Dauphin) is 4-0 with a 0.60 ERA over his last four starts and last week's Co-Pitcher of the Week RHP Josh Wilkie (Alpharetta, GA / Chattahoochee) is 4-0 with a 1.20 ERA over his last four.
GW also will unleash two A-10 Player of the Year candidates at the tournament as right fielder Brad Rosenblat (New Orleans, LA / Newman / Tulane) leads the A-10 in home runs (16), runs scored (60), RBIs (55), doubles (17), total bases (137) and stolen bases (20). First baseman Ryan Roberson (Silver Spring, MD / James H. Blake) carries the conference's highest batting average (.409), is second in slugging percentage (.732), second in total bases (120) and third in home runs (13).
The Colonials, winners of the 2003 A-10 Tournament, also were the second-seed in last year's tournament, but were eliminated by Rhode Island.
