WASHINGTON, DC - Senior Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) broke George Washington's individual RBI record on Sunday with an RBI home run to right field. He currently has notched 196 RBI's in his GW career, 19 in this season alone, and three from Sunday's home run.
Bassett, an outfielder who hits cleanup, surpassed Dan Rouhier (1998-2001) at 194 RBI's to set the new record. He is also four home runs shy of tying GW's home run record, held by Joe Beichert (1996-1999) at 50. Bassett started the season at 43 career home runs. He has since hit three, the first two in the seventh inning against Towson on March 8th.
In 22 games, Bassett has collected 26 hits in 79-at-bats (.329) with 17 runs. He currently ranks third on GW's most career doubles list, at 47, moving up from ninth after hitting seven so far this season. Bassett also ranks third in total bases having accumulated 79 this season, for 409 in his career.
Bassett received Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors on March 11. He also was named to the Clash of the Conferences All-Tournament Team on March 3.
Bassett and the Colonials next play James Madison at Barcroft Park tomorrow, Wednesday, March 27, at 3:00 p.m.
