Mike Bassett ([apos]02) concluded his career as one of the best players in GW baseball history. In his senior season, he helped the Colonials to their fourth Atlantic 10 Championship and the program[apos]s first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 years. Bassett was selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 11th round of the 2002 Major League Baseball Amateur Player Draft after setting seven career records, five of which are still standing. Bassett currently holds the GW record for games played (231), at bats (846), RBIs (254), home runs (62) and total bases (535) while ranking second all-time in runs (198), hits (290) and doubles (59). He also owns single-season records for games (63), at bats (241) and RBIs (77).
Bassett was named to the NCAA All-America Team following his senior season in 2002, and was also selected to the NCAA All-East Region First Team that season. He was tabbed as the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Championship Tournament in 2002 and is a two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selection.
The Paramus, N.J., native is currently a financial advisor for AXA.
