Washington, DC - The George Washington baseball team swept a double-header from the University of Dayton 8-2 and 14-3 at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA. The wins improve the Colonials' record to 8-3 in the Atlantic-10 West Division and 26-16 overall, while Dayton drops to 5-6 in the A-10 and 11-22 overall.
The Colonials were paced by strong starting pitching on the day. Junior Adam Belicic (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) and freshman Greg Conden (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) each earned their six victory of the season.
Belicic threw the first game and only allowed two-runs on three hits. Belicic also struck out six Dayton batters in six and two-thirds innings of work to improve his record to 6-4 on the season.
Conden allowed two first-inning runs and then settled-down to blank the Flyers over the next five innings. On the day, Conden allowed two runs and struck out five to improve his record to 6-0 on the year.
In the first game, the Colonials were led offensively by sophomores Matt Krimmel (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) and Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus). Bassett got the Colonial offense going in the first with a two-run double to right field. Krimmel smacked a two-run home run in the second inning, his fifth on the year, and added a fielder's choice RBI in the game.
In the second game, seniors Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/U. of South Carolina) and Ryan Dacey (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) led the way for the Colonials. Dacey went 3-4 in the game with two RBI's and three-runs scored. Dacey is just six hits shy of becoming GW's all-time hits leader.
Walker went 2-3 on the day with two RBI's and two runs scored.
