In the first game, Virginia Tech used a two-run home run by Kevin Bice to give them a 3-2 lead. The Hokies never surrendered the lead after the home run, and scored two unearned runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach.
The Colonials jumped-out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on sophomore Matt Krimmel's (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) solo homer. The home run was Krimmel's second on the year.
The Hokies responded in the second inning by tying the game at one on a RBI single by Chris Hutchison off the first base bag. The Colonials took the lead in the third inning 2-1 when senior Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/U. of South Carolina) singled home freshman Travis Crowder (Manassas, VA/Osbourn).
Sophomore Jason Bush picked up the win for the Hokies, improving his record to 3-3. Bush pitched six innings, allowing only two runs and striking out the three batters. Junior Adam Belicic (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) took the loss for the Colonials, dropping his record to 3-4. Belicic got the loss despite only giving-up three runs and striking out five Hokie batters.
In the second game, GW got a solid start from freshman Greg Conden (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) to pick-up the victory. Conden pitched 6 and a third innings, allowing no earned runs and striking out six batters. The win improved Conden's record to 4-0.
The Hokies opened the scoring in the second inning by using a Colonial error to take a 1-0 lead. The Colonials took the lead in the same inning on junior Eric Mitchell's (Thurmont, MD/DuBois) two-run home run. The home run was Mitchell's first on the season.
The Colonials added another run in the third inning on sophomore Mike Bassett's (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) solo homer, and two more in the fifth inning on senior Ryan Dacey's (Annapolis, MD/Annapolis) two-run shot to extend their lead to 5-1. The Colonials added two more in the sixth to close-out the scoring.
Freshman Joe Saunders took the loss for the Hokies, his first on the season. Saunders allowed seven runs in five innings, dropping his record to 4-1.
The Colonials return to action tomorrow when they conclude their three-game series with Virginia Tech at Barcoft Park in Arlington, VA at 12:00 p.m.
