In the first game, the Colonials used a RBI single by Matt Walker (Gibsonia, PA/South Carolina) to beat the Setters in extra innings 5-4.
The Colonials again got strong performances on the mound by junior Brian Beggs (Somerset, PA/Somerset) and freshman Gregg Conden (Owego, NY/Owego Free Academy) to pace GW. Conden started the game and pitched six innings, giving up only two earned runs and striking out eight batters. Beggs came in to relieve Conden and earned his first win of the year. Beggs struck out three batters and improved his record to 1-2 for the year.
Redshirt freshman Travis Crowder (Manassas, VA/Osbourn Park) led GW at the plate by going 3-3 with two RBI's.
In the second game, GW used an eight run second inning to blow open the game and never looked back. Junior Eric Mitchell (Thurmont, MD/Dubois), sophomore Mike Bassett (Paramus, NJ/Paramus) and Crowder each had RBI doubles in the inning. The big hit in the inning came from junior Dan Rouhier (McLean, VA/St.Albans). Rouhier hit a three run homerun to cap off the inning, his fourth of the season.
GW added three more in the third inning, highlighted by Bassett's two-run homerun. The homerun was Bassett's fifth on the season.
Sophomore Chris Worth (North Arlington, NJ/North Arlington) earned his second win of the season. Worth pitched six innings, striking out four Pace batters and giving up only one run. Worth improved his record to 2-4 on the season.
The Colonials return to action tomorrow when they conclude their three game series with Pace at Barcroft Park in Arlington, VA. The game is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
