East Carolina Downs Colonials 11-9 In Baseball

George Washington (1-4) got on the board first, scoring two runs in the first inning on a Matt Walker home run to right field. But ECU (5-1) got right back in it, scoring seven runs in the second to take a commanding lead.
Chad Tracy led off the second frame with a single and moved up when Erik Bakich walked with one out. Godwin singled to right to drive in Tracy before Bryant Ward hit a double down the right field line to bring across Bakich.
James Molinari followed with a two-run double and Nick Schnabel reached after being hit by a pitch before Delfino's double down the left field line brought across Molinari. John Williamson reached on an error that scored Schnabel before Tracy's second hit of the inning plated Delfino to give ECU a 7-2 lead.
The Colonials cut the lead to 7-5 in the third with three runs on four hits before the Pirate pitching staff settled down. Jeremy Schumacher picked up his first victory of the year by going 6.0 innings allowing seven hits and five runs with three strikeouts, but allowed just one base runner in his final three innings. Will Brinson came on in relief, going 2.0 innings giving up two hits with one strikeout.
ECU added a run in the fifth and two in the seventh as Godwin hit his first home run of the season and collected a two-run double, respectively. The Pirates capped off the scoring in the eighth as Delfino hit his second homer in two days that gave the Pirates an 11-5 lead.
The Pirates and Colonials will concluded the three-game series Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Harrington Field.
